Day 2 - Engaging the Children in Physical Activities

Welcome to another day of my journey in helping underprivileged children. Today, I decided to spend my time with the children in Lotus NGO by playing a few sports with them, along with a few board games. I realized that playing sports with them would let me get to know them better as individuals. Since it was a sunny day, I thought that it would be the perfect day to indulge in physical activities.

When I walked into the building, I was immediately greeted by the energetic children and some of the staff members. I asked the children if they wanted to play any sports, and the immediate answer that came from them was badminton. I was surprised by the sole answer and I got to know that almost everyone in the group shared the same interests. I helped the children unload the badminton supplies and went outside with them. There, I stood and watched some of the children play and I was amazed by the skill they showcased. One of the staff members told me that each child there possessed a unique capability and skill. Some of the children even got local awards specifically in badminton which I personally thought was very appreciable. I was disheartened to see that some of the equipment that the children were playing with were not at good condition. After playing for a while, it started raining. We quickly got all of our supplies back indoors and decided to play a few board games. Majority of the children said they wanted to play carrom. Carrom is a board game in which players have to flick a disc to knock down other discs into the corners of the board. The concept is very similar to Pool, however carrom only has four pockets instead of six. Since carrom is a four-player game, we each took turns playing and after everyone had a turn we decided to switch to Ludo. Witnessing the skills and the potential of the children was eye-opening. I would have never thought of experiencing an inspiring event as today.

My second day with these children taught me an important lesson. No matter who you are or what your background is, all that matters is how passionate you are to achieve your goals. You will achieve your goals if you work hard for it, even if you have a poor personal background. My time with the children today broke through all my expectations as it showed me how passionate and enthusiastic the children really were.
