Day 4 - Continuing to Share Knowledge with the Children
Welcome
back to my journey in helping underprivileged children. Today, I continued my
effort in educating the children in Lotus NGO. The passion and curiosity that
the children had yesterday motivated me to continue my sessions with them
today. After meeting up with the children, who were all gathered inside the
study room, we decided to start our day by reflecting upon what we had done
over the course of three days. While in retrospect, we shared laughter, joy,
and the personal experiences we had endured in the past three days. After our
time on reliving those moments, I decided to get back on track and start my sessions
with them.
The
topic I taught them today was on History. I figured that since History is both
a general and fun topic, it would be best suitable for the children. Many of
the kids claimed that they already knew about majority of the Indian history, so I decided to shift my
focus to the US once again. The children seemed to be very interested in the political
system of the US, so I decided to refurbish what I had said yesterday and added
more onto it. Along with the political system, the children were also really
interested in the World Wars. I explained the best I could to them, and they
seemed really satisfied with the new immense amount of information they had
gained. I decided to quiz the children like I did yesterday, and they shocked
me once again with the correct answers they expressed.
After
quizzing the bright children, they invited me to come join them in a drawing
event. In the event, the children have to draw whatever comes in their mind and
whoever gets voted for having the best drawing by the teachers win. Even though
I am not particularly known for my drawing, I really wanted to witness the art
made by the children. While we were drawing, I noticed that the children were
completely immersed in the world of art. They seemed really interested in what
they were doing. I couldn’t help but think that whatever the children did, they
did with full sincerity and interest. We kept drawing until the set time for
drawing was up. As I looked around, I couldn’t help but marvel at some of the
drawings I spotted. The artistic talent that some of the children possessed was
beyond imagination. After the drawing event, all of us headed straight for
lunch, which was the peak of our day like always.
My fourth
day at Lotus NGO consisted of a roller-coaster of events. Our time together
during the educational sessions, drawing event, and lunch was illuminating. Being
able to witness the profound and minute details of some of the drawings of the
children ignited feelings of motivation and passion in me. Watch out for the next and last post for this blog, where I plan on
having the delight of distributing school supplies and buying a feast for the
children.
